Elizabeth (Betty) Lorentzen, 90, of Pleasant Valley, NY, died September 6th, 2023, at Luteran Care after a long illness.   She was born on August 2, 1933, in Hartford, Ct. and was the daughter of Josephine Walsh and Fredrick Girouard.

She leaves her beloved daughter Kathleen and son-in-law (predeceased) Leo Nowik of Poughkeepsie, NY, son James M. Donahue of Boca Raton, Fl, and her daughter Maureen and son-in-law (predeceased) Michael Winzig of Peekskill, NY.  She also leaves her grandchildren; Leo Patrick Nowik (predeceased), Amanda Nowik, Maximilien Peck and his wife, Kendal and child, Cameron, and several great grandchildren as well as her sister-in-law, Gail Lorentzen.

Betty was born and raised in Hartford, CT. She was the eldest daughter of 5 children. On March 25, 1961, Betty and Bill Lorentzen were married in Woodstock, Ct.  From there they moved to Pleasant Valley until August 2010 when Bill passed away and she remained until September 2023.

Bill and Betty were wonderful ballroom dancers, loved bowling, and enjoyed taking off to Maine and Rhode Island on vacation. They would host lively parties at their home and even invite the occasional loner on holidays.

Betty was devoted to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley bringing baked goods and handmade crafts for sale for every occasion. As an avid reader, she was also very involved with the Pleasant Valley Library.  Any opportunity to show up, dress up, volunteer and contribute, Betty would surely be there.  She was a loyal friend to many and brought a sense of humor and a smile to all. She will be greatly missed.

The Lorentzen family would like to give their deepest thanks to all their friends, loved ones and Hudson Valley Hospice for the love and spiritual support they have so freely given at this difficult time.

On Saturday, October 7th at 10:00am there will be a memorial mass held at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 808 Traver Rd., Pleasant Valley, NY 12569. A gathering at the Parish Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church or library will be accepted.
