Obituary

Edward "Ted" Austin Lindsay, 61, died August 7, 2017 from a sudden cardiac event at his home in Millbrook, New York.

Ted was born March 28, 1956 in Huntington, New York to parents Elizabeth "Libby" Austin Lindsay and David Alexander Lindsay. He attended North Country School, Milton Academy, and graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in the History of Religion. He then attended Dutchess Community College and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Nursing and became licensed as a Registered Nurse.

Over the years, he graciously aided thousands of patients throughout the Hudson Valley at Westchester Medical Center, Sharon Hospital, and Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Later in his career, Ted cared for hundreds of campers and students at Camp Treetops in Lake Placid and at the Millbrook School.

He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his irreverent sense of humor, and his deep devotion to family. Ted lived in Millbrook, New York for most of his adult life in the home he built with Nan, his wife of over 30 years. Together they cherished hosting family and friends with grace and hospitality.

Ted delighted in acting, dancing, and storytelling, but was most known for his skill and creativity as a ceramic artist, giving life to hand-thrown mugs, bowls, and sculpture pieces. His artistic nature carried over into his passionate dedication to gardening, food, baking—and every cat who crossed his path.

He was also committed to the Millbrook community, serving nine years on the Millbrook School Board, and was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he taught Sunday school.

Ted will be dearly missed by his wife Nancy Brennan Lindsay, daughters Morgan Carey Lindsay and Dana Austin Lindsay, and three siblings Eleanor "Elly" Lindsay of Dallas TX, Marion "Marney" Morrison of Charlottesville, VA, and David Lindsay Jr. of Hamden CT, as well as a large loving family and extended community.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents Marion Roberts Austin & Edwin Charles Austin and F. Eleanor Vliet Lindsay & George Nelson Lindsay.

A Memorial Service will be held on September 23, 2017 at 11am at Grace Episcopal Church, located at 3328 Franklin Avenue in Millbrook, New York.

Donations in honor of Ted may be made to the Camp Treetops & North Country School Scholarship Funds and to the Dutchess County SPCA.
