After successfully avoiding vegetables for 77 years, Edward John Lackaye Jr passed away on Tuesday, August 13th, at Vassar Brothers Hospital surrounded by his loving family. A native and lifelong resident of the City of Poughkeepsie, he was born January 29th, 1947 to Edward J. Lackaye, Sr. and Helen (Waryasz) Lackaye. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Michele (Tedeschi) Lackaye; brothers Bob; sister Mary (Richard) Truncale; sister-in-law Patricia; sister-in-law Louise (Patrick); sons Michael (Catherine), Bryan (Erin), and daughter Kristen; his eight grandchildren Dylan, Ella, Benjamin, Declan, Nicolas, Joseph, Mary and Edward; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his brother, John Lackaye, niece Jennifer Lackaye Sanda and sister-in-law Karen Cassetta Lackaye.
He attended Holy Trinity Elementary School ('60) and Our Lady of Lourdes ('64) in Poughkeepsie. In 1968, he graduated Cum Laude from Boston College. Ed enlisted in the US Navy ('69), where he proudly served his country in Vietnam as a Lieutenant JG aboard the USS Maddux. After graduating Albany Law School (1975), he began his practice as a private attorney at John Mulvey Law Office, where he later practiced with his brother Bob until his retirement in 2012.

Edward married the love of his life in June 0f 1972. Although he rightly praised Michele's cooking as the best in the world, he maintained a life long affair with Kraft Food's ethnic abomination, Tangy "Italian" dinner. He was a creature of habit.

Along with his brothers Bob and John, for 14 years, he coached the Polish Club and later PAL of the City of Poughkeepsie League. The PAL teams of 1990 (with a 20-1 record) and 1991 won the City Championship*.
Ed loved traveling with friends and family to Europe, for golf trips and summers on Long Beach Island. For 14 years with his brothers and two of his best friends, Ted Luty and Vinny Avallone who also predeceased him, they navigated in the My Sunita to Saratoga for the Travers Stakes, referred to as the annual "boat trip".

Ed possessed a uniquely dry sense of humor, a general intolerance for obtuseness, and refused to bend to the pressures of modern fashion sensibilities. He was generous to a fault.
He greatly valued service, hard work, and humility, living these virtues daily. He was not a man of many words but was able to instill these values in his children and grandchildren, not often by what he would say, but by the simple eloquence of his example. He lived a full and happy life.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made in memory of Ed to Tunnels for Towers, Wounded Warriors or Church of the Holy Trinity.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 1PM-5PM at the Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 19th at 10am from Church of the Holy Trinity, 775 Main St., Poughkeepsie.
