Edward Joseph Killmer Sr., 80, passed away after a hard fought battle with Dementia on Wednesday, July 12th. He was born In Beacon, N.Y. on February 14, 1937 to Harold and Mary Killmer.
Ed was well known in his younger years in his hometown of Beacon for the paper route he happily worked. After graduating from St. Patrick's Catholic High School in Newburgh in 1955, he attended Krissler Business Institute in Poughkeepsie where he received a certificate in Accounting. He then went on to work for IBM in the accounting division from May 28, 1956 until his retirement on July 31, 1991 with 35 years of service. While working at IBM, he met and fell in love with his late wife, Anne Carbone Killmer. On September 13th, 1958, they were married and spent the next 58 years together. After Ed's retirement, he worked part-time at the polling station in Pleasant Valley, gardened, traveled to his favorite place, Las Vegas, collected various historical coins, took pride in completing the N.Y Times crossword puzzle daily, and most of all, spent time with his cherished seven grandchildren. He was also an avid Giants, Knicks and Dodgers fan. Ed was a devout Catholic, being a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Pleasant Valley for over 50 years. He will be remembered by many parishioners for taking up collection every weekend for many years. He was also a proud member of the Poughkeepsie Knights of Columbus, as well as the IBM Quarter Century Club.
Ed is predeceased by his loving wife, Anne Carbone Killmer, his parents, Harold and Mary Killmer, and his brother, Robert Killmer. Ed is survived by his four loving children: Edward J. Killmer, Jr., and his companion, Tara Hatfield, of Tampa, Fl., Maryanne and Jack Lartz, of Poolesville, MD, Colleen and Richard Hayes, of Pleasant Valley, NY, and Janice and Joe DeQuarto, of Highland, NY. He is also survived by his seven cherished grandchildren: Corey Hayes and his wife Laureene, Danny and Matthew Hayes, Jaden and Tyler DeQuarto and Kerianne and Kimberly Lartz. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Charles Killmer and his wife Judy, his sister, Anne Adams and her husband Robert, his sister-in-law, Helen Killmer, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Thursday, July 13th at Allen Funeral Home. 1605 Main Street, Pleasant Valley, N.Y. A mass of Christian Burial for Ed will be offered on Friday, July 14th at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Church, Pleasant Valley. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
