Dorothy Shreders Marr, of Millbrook passed away on April 18, 2023 at Lutheran Care Center. She was born on February 2, 1935 in Greenwich, CT., the daughter of Joseph and Anna Mary Wilke Shreders. Dorothy attended Katherine Gibbs becoming a legal and executive secretary for Texaco, Inc. She married the late Charles "Fred" Marr and they raised a family in Yorktown Heights, NY. She worked as a secretary for the engineering department in Yorktown Heights before retiring and moving to Millbrook. She spent her last few years at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie.
She was a loving mom to her five children; daughter Susan Crean and sons Chuck, Doug, Scott and David. She could often be seen on the sidelines of lacrosse games (and many other sports) cheering on her family. She was also a Girl Scout leader. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling with Fred and friends, and playing tennis at Downing Park.
She lived for her children, their spouses, Jerry, Debbie, Mindy, Traci, Marissa and her 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Ryan and Kristen Crean, Dan and Kerri Ryan-Crean, Ben Marr and Johanna Pederson, Jeffrey, Kyle, Jordyn, Sarah, Keeley, Madelyn, Rebecca, Gavin and Liam Marr, and her great grandson, Connor Crean.
After her husband Fred passed, she moved into the Fountains assisted living in Millbrook, where they were very kind to her. For the last three years, she has resided at the Lutheran Care Center in Poughkeepsie. Her family can't say enough about the wonderful staff who kept her laughing and feeling loved until the very end.
Viewing hours will held at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook on Monday, April 24 from 4-7pm. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10am from Lyall Memorial Federated Church, Maple Ave., Millbrook. Entombment will follow in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Putnam Valley, NY. Since mom loved children so much, please consider donating to St. Jude Children's Hospital. (stjude.org) in her memory.
