Donald Robert Strain, 76, of Peasant Valley, died on February 7, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.   Born in Poughkeepsie on July 13, 1940, he was the son of the late Chalmer L. Strain and Mildred Richard Strain.  On September 11, 1971, he married Pamela Dougherty Strain.  Donald was Vice President of C.B. Strain and Sons until his retirement.  He was a partner of Corlies Associates until its' sale in 2014.

Donald was an avid skier starting out at College Hill in Poughkeepsie, moving on to Vermont where he enjoyed many weekends with friends and family and then continuing to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.  He was also an avid Nascar and FOX News fan.  He loved his home, farm and property in Pleasant Valley, NY and his homes in Vermont and Steamboat Springs Colorado.   He thoroughly enjoyed his dogs recently he was accompanied by his two dogs Rocky and Takodo, taking them for many rides in the car and around the farm with the four-wheeler.

In addition to his wife Pamela, Donald is survived by his two children; T. Scott Strain, his wife Dr. Nancy S. Strain of Arvada, Colorado and their children Hunter and Teagan, Robert C. Strain and his wife Kori A. Strain of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; his brother Richard C. Strain of Poughkeepsie, NY and several nieces and nephew as well as dear friends.  He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Lee Strain.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 11th, 12 – 4 PM with a service at 2 PM at Parmele, Auchmoody &Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY.  Burial will take place on Monday, February 13th at 10 AM at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Donald's memory to Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley, NY or Tabernacle Christian Academy, Poughkeepsie, NY.
