Dolores
Sackstein
Nov 30, 1932 — Apr 8, 2024
Poughkeepsie
Dolores Sackstein, 91, formerly from Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully at Putnam Ridge nursing Home in Brewster on April 8, 2024.
Born November 30, 1932 to Harry and Naomi (Blechman) Boyarsky in Brooklyn and graduating from Thomas Jefferson HS in 1950.
On January 9, 1954 she married Samuel Sackstein in Brooklynwho predeceased her in 2010. They moved to Poughkeepsie in 1967 with their 3 children, and joined there a year later by her parents.
She made friends wherever she went, and was often described with a smile as "one of a kind" with her mix of kindness, humor, good nature, and of course her opinion.
She spent many years working at Dupont/TAU Labs on Manchester Road.
She was an accomplished bowler, placing 1st place in 1992 in the old Mardi-Bob Flowers league. She also had an extensive collection of ceramic cats and cat-related art.
Family always came first with her, and we were glad to be there for her when she needed us.
Dolores was predeceased by her daughter Irene Gilbert in 2023. She is survived by her son Steve (Ellen), daughter Carolyn Kalinski (Seth), Son-In-Law Mitchell Gilbert, and her 3 grandsons that she was most proud of and loved dearly, Michael Sackstein, Benjamin Gilbert, and Zachary Gilbert, her brother Norman G. Boyer of Glenview, IL., nieces and cousins, and her good friends Vini and Sue.
Our family wishes to thank the staff of Putnam Ridge who made her last months and days the best possible, especially Ellen, Crystal O. and Nurse Nancy in Birch unit, and the entire Cedar Unit Palliative team. We are amazed at what they do every day.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday April 11 at 1 pm at Temple Beth-El Cemetery , Rt. 44 Poughkeepsie.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dolores' name can be to Temple Beth-El or a charity of their choice.
