Obituary

David A. Kiesling passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2025. The son of Frank and Loise Kiesling, he was born and raised in Rochester, New York.  After graduating from Charlotte High School, he went  on to attend Michigan State University graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  A job with IBM brought him to Dutchess County where he lived ever since.  He truly loved this area often referring to it as "the best place on earth".  On 7/14/90 at the New Hackensack Reformed Church he married Earllyn Knepka Schaefer.

As an electrical engineer David had a remarkable 44 year career with IBM, greatly valuing the richness of experiences in working with so many people of other cultures.  Retiring in 2012 gave him the time and opportunity to be with Earllyn enjoying his passion for the outdoors, whether paddling his canoe, bike riding or hiking.  He especially enjoyed the many flower gardens around their home, which always included a Spring pilgrimage to local garden centers.

David was a quiet, humble man devoted to serving others.  Generous beyond measure, he impacted countless lives in large and small ways.  A member of Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, he truly lived his deep religious convictions.

He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Loise Kiesling. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years Earllyn. In addition survivors include his children Brian, Jeffrey (Adrienne), and Christine (Joel) Reel, and step son Adam (Stella)Schaefer, also his brother Robert (Susanah) of San Diego and brother John (Marilyn) of Colorado Springs, four grandchildren and five nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours.  A memorial service will be held at Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, 2381 New Hackensack Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on 1/16/25 at 11:00 AM.  At a later date his ashes will be spread in the Hudson River, where he spent so many happy, happy hours in his canoe. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church or Habitat for Humanity.
