Obituary

David Louis Dean, 78 of Poughkeepsie known to many as "Ranger Dave", 78 passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 from a long battle with cancer.

David was a great man with a generous soul. He was always helping or fixing something for someone else. Born February 15, 1943 in Staten Island NY, he was the son of Kenneth and Hazel (Trisman) Dean. They would soon move to Lagrange NY where he attended and graduated from Arlington High School in 1961.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army as an Aircraft Electrician. While serving our country he received the National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Expert (M14), and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). After being honorably discharged he began working for IBM of Poughkeepsie as an Electrical Engineer and would soon retire in 1996.
David also devoted much of his time as a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Growing up, his brother and himself were both Scouts and both earned the rank of Eagle. His two sons, Michael and Peter, would soon follow their footsteps and also become Eagle Scouts. David also worked as a ranger at Camp Nooteeming/ Waneeshi where he became widely known as "Ranger Dave". His devotion to scouting and the organization was truly unmatched.

David was happily married for 48 years to his ever loving wife Ronna, and is also survived by his children Staff Sergeant Michael David Dean and wife Jacqueline; and Peter Kenneth Dean and wife Patricia; five grandchildren Christopher Lee, Phoebe Sue, Skyler Mia, Madison Paige and Parker Kenneth Dean. Also surviving are his siblings Peter and Susan Dean and several nieces and nephews. David will be missed and remembered by many... may he rest in peace.
