Cynthia "Cindi": Mahoney Panarella passed away peacefully in the Hudson Valley Hospice on May 8, 2026 from lung and brain cancer. She was born on February 8,1952 in Brooklyn and at the age of 7 moved to Mariners Harbor Staten Island. She graduated from Port Richmond HS and attended the College of Staten Island, where she received her Masters Degree in Special Education.
Cindi taught Special Ed at PS 44 in Mariners Harbor and was also elected as the Chapter Leader of the UFT branch at the school, where she gave numerous principal's headaches advocating for the staff and students. In 1986 and 1987 she served on the Executive Committee of the Richmond County Conservate Party as a South Shore Zone Leader. She also served on the Party's County Committee for 30 years. She relocated to Craryville NY in 2021
She loved traveling with family and friends to her time share in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. An animal lover, every bird and deer in the Craryville area knew they could always stop by for a meal.
A wonderful mother and grandmother, Cindi is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dan, her two beloved daughters Melissa Carroll and Alison Rice, her sons in law Noah and Rick, her beautiful grandkids, Isabella, Thomas, Michael and Lila, her adopted 4-legged "son" a yorkie named Snickers, her beloved sister Cathy Dobbs and her beloved brother Richard Mahoney, as well as many nieces and nephews and countless special ed kids she so cared about., and her many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12 from 4- 7 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, May 13 at 10 am from St. Joseph's Church, North Ave. Millbrook, NY. Interment will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson, NY.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that anyone so wishing make a donation in her name to the Hudson Valley Hospice in Hyde Park NY or the Tunnel to Towers fund.
