Beloved local tennis pro and owner of the Dutchess Racquet Tennis Club in Poughkeepsie, NY, Chad A. Lookabaugh passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Well-known in the community for his passion for tennis as a dedicated teacher and player, Chad will be dearly missed by his family, friends and students.

Chad Allen Lookabaugh was born on November 14, 1957 in Cumberland, MD, to parents Doris and Robert Lookabaugh.  A gifted athlete, he quickly excelled in sports and captured the attention of coaches as a basketball and baseball player for Arlington High School in LaGrangeville, NY. He graduated in 1976 and was recently inducted into the Arlington High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021. It was on the tennis court, however, where Chad's talent truly shined. As a self-taught player in his early twenties, Chad quickly advanced in the sport he grew to love. His enthusiasm spread to teaching tennis where even the youngest of players were entertained by his infectious laugh and exuberance. Young and old, those who were taught by Chad never missed a chance to learn from him and listen to his animated stories.

Taken too soon, Chad is survived by his partner Leslie Wilson and her two children Montana and Beck, his mother Doris Lookabaugh of Pleasant Valley, NY, and sisters Krystal Rothaupt (Richard) of Rhinebeck, NY, Holly Lookabaugh-Deur (Sean) of Muskegon, MI, Bobbi Reynoso (Sergio) of Las Vegas, NV and their families. He is preceded in death by his father Robert A. Lookabaugh.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Chad and the sport he loved to the USTA Foundation at ustafoundation.com which supports the National Junior Tennis League.

Funeral services will be private.
