Ceris Valesey née Edwards, 67, of Pleasant Valley, NY, passed away on September 15, 2026, surrounded by her immediate family. Ceris was a proud immigrant to the United States so she could be with the love of her life, and husband, Lou. Ceris was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, teacher, and friend. Alongside her husband, she was known for being the epicenter of her tribe, where she provided unconditional love and support for her family, which included the family she was born into, the family she made, and the family she chose.

Ceris was born on March 9,1959 in Bangor, North Wales, UK, to David Vaughan and Hefina Edwards. Ceris is survived by her husband, Lou, her mother, her siblings, Dewi, Mair, and Arwel, her three children, David, Kerri, and Megan, and her 25 nieces and nephews, her honorary grandchildren, and more that would call her family. She was predeceased by her father, her mother-in-law, and others who were dear to her.

She grew up alongside her siblings, and developed an early love of math, teaching, reading, and nature. She met Lou on October 6, 1977, while attending Matlock University in Derbyshire, and she would tell you that she knew immediately he was the one. They were married on July 5, 1980, and were married for 46 years, which was not nearly enough. Her father established Lou’s Independence Day on July 4th, which continued to add levity to their ongoing love. Ceris and Lou proudly raised three incredibly talented children.

She worked as a math teacher for 39 years. She began her career on the Navajo reservation in Farmington, New Mexico. Ceris moved to New York in 1986, continuing her career at the Berkeley School in NYC. When she moved to Dover, NY with her family, she worked at Green Chimneys, Brewster, NY, and then transitioned to working alongside Lou at Holy Cross in Rhinecliff, NY. Ceris and Lou made their home in Pleasant Valley in 1995, a home that grew more beautiful over many years. She proudly ended her career with 19 years at Wappingers School District before retiring in 2019.

In her retirement, Ceris and Lou have enjoyed each other’s company by traveling to as many places as often as possible, visiting her children, her family, and her friends and making memories. Throughout her life, she was an avid reader, traveler, home chef, and her roasted potatoes are world renowned. She knit baby blankets, hats and blankets for chemo patients, and her creations kept innumerable people warm. Ceris was proud of her Welsh roots and collected mementos to honor where she was from and where she had lived. With Welsh as her first language, she fostered a love of all languages. She enjoyed attending Hudson Valley Shakespeare, Broadway shows, and concerts (even those she put on in the car). Ceris especially loved singing along to her favorite Christmas movie, White Christmas, and her favorite “Christmas” album, Rumors, by Fleetwood Mac.
