Obituary

Carolyn Marie Fuchek Vitolo died September 30, 2026, at age 57, peacefully with her family after a battle with cancer. She was born October 22,1968, in Sleepy Hollow, New York, to John Fuchek and Virginia B. Markle. She attended Walter Panas High School and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology at Western Connecticut State University.

In Mississippi, Carolyn worked as a symphony manager and a violinist. She loved music and writing, and she worked as an independent journalist.

Her work also took her to a nursing home as an aide, the cafeteria at Our Lady of Lourdes High School and the reception desk at Vassar Hospital. She also spent many years volunteering at Holy Trinity School.

On June 11,2009, she married Antonio Vitolo. She lived in Poughkeepsie,New York, with her husband and daughter. She loved being a mother and wife and loved collecting antiques. Carolyn had the kindest heart, was an incredibly giving person,and an extremely devoted mother.

She is survived by her daughter, Gabriella Vitolo; her husband, Antonio Vitolo; her mother, Virginia B. Markle; her step father, Art Markle; her father, John Fuchek; her step mother, Cathy Fuchek; her sister, Denise Fuhchek Kurmann and her brother-in-law, Rete Kurmann; and her niece and nephew, Helena and Jan Kurmann. The family thanks Hudson Valley Hospice and the Dyson Center at Vassar Hospital for the care and comfort they provided Carolyn. Carolyn had the kindest heart, was an incredibly giving person, and an extremely devoted mother.

A service will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 231 Church Street, Poughkeepsie, New York. An event will be held after in Carolyn’s memory at American Legion, 55 Overlook Road, Poughkeepsie, New York.
