Obituary

Carolyn Nichols Albrecht,  94, passed away peacefully at her home on December 10, 2025 surrounded by her daughters and devoted caregiver.

She was born on August 29, 1931, in Glens Falls, New York, the daughter of Edgar and Gladys (Wood) Nichols.  Carolyn enjoyed being in the mountains and on the lakes in the Adirondacks.  She was active in her youthful years skiing, boating, fishing, dancing, swimming, playing softball and golf.  Carolyn was a key punch operator for Glens Falls Insurance Company and then for the New York State Executive Division in the Department of Parole in Albany, New York.

On March 27, 1965, Carolyn married the love of her life, Robert Stanley Albrecht.  They met at a dance in Lake George and had 60 happy years together in their Pleasant Valley home.  Mom enjoyed country living as a dairy farmer's wife, growing vegetables, mowing the lawn, canning tomatoes, decorating cakes, and planting flowers in her magnificent rock garden.

Mom was a quiet and genuine caregiver, often reaching out to those sick or elderly with a helping hand, running errands, providing home-cooked meals and nurturing visits.

Mom enjoyed family vacations camping, renting cabins on lakes and spending time by the seashore.  She especially loved her small fluffy dogs – Cindy, Lucy and Missy who will be greeting her on the rainbow bridge.

Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, husband, brother Edgar, and son-in-law Peter Smith.  She is survived by her daughter Lori Albrecht Johnson and stepdaughter Barbara Smith Komondorea (Dean) and son-in-law Kurt Johnson; grandchildren, Christine Henry (Michael), Nicole Johnson, Michael Smith, Krystal Drumm (Harold), Matthew Smith; and great-grandchildren Grace Drumm and Avery Cabrera; and several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Teo, Mom's caregiver, and Hospice for their amazing homecare.
Donations can be made in her memory to Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or Lyall Community Church (Meals on Wheels Program), 30 Maple Avenue, Millbrook, NY 12545.
