Carol R.
Rayve
Dec 8, 1927 — Jun 14, 2023
Poughkeepsie
Carol R. Rayve (nee: Lindholm) passed peacefully away on Wednesday June 14th, 2023. She was blessed to have been at home and in the presence of family. Carol cherished her connection to her neighborhood on Westview Terrace and lived there for 69 years. The house that she made a home has been a place full of love and security for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Born December 8, 1927 to Carl and Alice Lindholm, Carol spent almost all of her life in the Hudson Valley. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1946 and married Theodore M. Rayve in August of 1947. She worked for Western Publishing before having her daughter, Karen, in 1949. She and Ted completed their family with the birth of their son, Theodore Rayve Jr., in 1953. Carol returned to the workforce later in life, most memorably working for the Town of LaGrange Assessors Office. She began as the Assessor Clerk in 1973, becoming Town Assessor in 1989. She retired from 22 years of civil service in September 1995. Carol remained committed to the community as a patron of the LaGrange Historical Society and a member of The Federated Republican Women of Dutchess County.
Carol had the eye and hands of an artist, drawing homemade cards and making clothes, wedding gowns, and more for her family. From beautifully decorated (and delicious) cakes, to intricate holiday decor, Carol put her heart into everything she created for her family and friends. As the matriarch she hosted large family gatherings full of love and good food. Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping a good sale, cooking for loved ones, dining out, and traveling both locally and afar. She took pride in caring for herself and enjoyed a keen sense of style. She was often found awake in the early hours, dressed, lipstick applied, and ready to tackle anything the day had in store.
Carol is survived by her daughter Karen Salvitti of Burlington, NC; grandson Michael (Jessa) Salvitti of Naples, Italy; granddaughter Sabrina (David) Haughn of Indianapolis, IN; grandson Timothy (Shantelle) Salvitti of Cary, NC; grandson Ted (Brie Volkman) Becker of Daly City, CA; granddaughter Jennifer (Branden) Leslie of Burlington, NC; eleven great-grandchildren (Leigha, Jacob, Skyler, MaKylah, Canaan, Danielle, Karter, Isaac, Hudsen, Thomas, and Henry); and her brother Carl Robert Lindholm Jr. of Millbrook, NY. She is preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, husband Theodore M. Rayve, son Theodore M Rayve Jr., son-in-law Arthur M. Salvitti, and her companion of 10 years, Ronald Price.
Carol is remembered by her family as generous, nurturing, faithful, and kind. She gifted steadfast love and support, and modeled living a full and vibrant life.
Carol will be inurned at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery on July 24, 2023 at 10am. Donations in her honor can be made to Hudson Valley Hospice, online at www.hvhospice.org/donate-now or by mail to Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.
