Betty M. Underhill, 90 of Poughkeepsie, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Valley Vista in Highland,NY.
Born on March 11, 1928 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Marshall and Abigail Pectle Hewlett.
Betty was a graduate of Arlington High School, Class of 1946. Following graduation she worked as a secretary for Marshall & Sterling Insurance Agency in Poughkeepsie. She also worked many years for the Arlington School District mainly at West Road School in the cafeteria.
On September 21, 1952 at the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Betty married Robert Underhill.
Betty was a longtime member of The New Beginnings Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Poughkeepsie. She enjoyed volunteering especially Meals on Wheels.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Benny Assenza of Highland; her grandchildren, Nicole and Jesse; her great granddaughter Valerie; her 2 sisters, Ella Hampson of Connecticut and Barbie VonTempo of Colorado; her brother, Ike Hewlett of Dover Plains; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert; her daughter Sheila; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9 from 2-5 pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie. Funeral services will take place on Monday, December 10 at 10 am from the funeral home. Interment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
