Obituary

Barbara Eleanor Bradshaw Place Storms passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years old on March 6th, 2024 in Rhinebeck, NY alongside her beloved husband, Vernon. Born February 21st, 1934 in the town of Stanford, NY, Barbara's journey led her to a life of service in the healthcare field. After graduating as a member of the National Honor Society from Pine Plains Central High School, she went to Vassar Brothers School of Nursing, graduating with honors in 1955. That same year she married the love of her life and husband just shy of 69 years, Vernon Storms. Together they lived a life full of adventure, travel, family, farming, and most of all love and unwavering devotion. After working as a nurse for the Dutchess County Health Care Facility from 1969 - 1991, she retired and spent part of her time as a charge nurse at Mary McClellan Hospital, and the rest caring for her family. Barbara is predeceased by her mother Zenneda Barber Bradshaw, her father John Bradshaw, her adoptive father Alfred Place, and her brother Alfred Lewis Place. She is survived by her loving sister Shirley Place Hines, her daughters Kathleen Storms, Sharon Longest and her son Mark Storms. Along with her children she is survived by her grandchildren, Erin Vollmer, Alfred Kyle Longest, Lucas Longest, Sarah Perry, Melissa Caul, Stephanie Caul, Samantha Paraszti, Steven Corrado, Thomas Armstrong, Mallory Storms, and Nola Storms. Even more, survived by nieces and nephews and 16 great grandchildren and of course, her soulmate, Vernon.
Funeral services will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook, NY on Thursday, March 14th with visiting from 2-3 followed by a service. In lieu of flowers, lifelong lover of reading, Barbara, would suggest contributing to your local library or literacy organization.
