Ardith Darlene
Orr
Jul 13, 1946 — Apr 10, 2023
Salt Point
Ardith Darlene Orr, 76, a long-time resident of Salt Point, NY, passed away on April 10 th , 2023 at her home in Salt Point. Ardith, also known by the endearments 'Sloopy' and 'Doodie,' grew up in Tivoli, NY and graduated (1964) from Tivoli Union Free School, with a graduating class of 12. A woman of keen intellect, enormous generosity and kindness, with a strong commitment to community, she served a long career in public accounting, school finance, and volunteer activism.
Her college plans were postponed because of family priorities and the need for self-discovery, to include attending Woodstock in 1969 with her beloved brother Terry Moore in their shared Volkswagen Beetle. A proponent of holistic studies, she was a lifelong learner with a focus on personal, social and cultural change. Community achievement Jujitsu black belt (if it existed) would have been a slam dunk. Later, in her 40's, she pursued an accounting degree at Marist College, while working full-time, graduating Magna cum Laude.
She loved Latin and Ballroom Dance and visited many venues within the Hudson Valley, NYC, Florida, and in 2001, Cuba, where locals loved dancing with her. She introduced the family to Cape Cod, MA – the Cape became a family forever love affair. Rachel, Eric, and Cordelia now live there. A cottage was bought on the Cape and 'Sloopy' enjoyed seeing her granddaughter growing up, doing sudoku puzzles, and living near family (9 houses away). Also, in recent times, bird walks were replaced with the 'Big Sit', very clean living room windows and bird books within reach along with binoculars on the ready.
Born on July 13
th
1946 in Rhinebeck, NY, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Ardith (Forell) Moore of Tivoli, NY. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, John Griesemer; her daughter and her husband and her grandchild – Rachel, Eric and Cordelia Youngling of West Yarmouth, MA; her aunt Darlene Iosty of Dewey, AZ.; in addition to many cousins. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Terry Moore. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff of Hudson Valley Hospice for their compassionate medical care during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff at New York Oncology Hematology in Hudson, NY for their ongoing excellent treatment. In memory of 'Doodie,' friends may send a gift to Pleasant Valley Free Library in Pleasant Valley, NY, or to a local library of their choosing. A celebration of life will take place in the Summer of 2023.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Funeral Home, Pleasant Valley.
