Hurley-Albert J. Hallgren, 88, of Hurley died at the home of his daughter, after a brief illness on Oct. 17, 2016.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct 2,1928, he was the son of the late John and Edith Hallgren.

Albert enlisted into the Marine core at the tender age of 17 and proudly served his country as a Drill Instructor.

After his military service, Al began a 35 year career at IBM where he met the love of his life, Marion.

After retirement, Al was active serving his community well into his eighties.  He was a long time volunteer at area hospitals, earning the volunteer of the year award.  He was active in the American Cancer Society making many trips to hospitals and doctor's offices in the NYC area, driving patients to and from medical appointments.  He spent many a night volunteering at local homeless shelters. He was also an advocate in the children's foster care program. He never met a cause he didn't like.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marion Ciminaro, in January of 1994; a sister Vivienne Kouri and brothers John and George.

Surviving are his children, Christopher and his wife Ellen.  Daughters, Vivienne Castelli and her husband Michael. Jennifer Anderson and her husband Robert. Cynthia Helfrich and her husband Michael; his sister Eileen Peck and her husband Ronald of Pawling; ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will commence on Oct. 24th, 11 to 1 pm with services at 12:30 pm, at the Robert H. Auchmoody funeral Home, 1028 Main Street, Fishkill, NY.
