Agnes "Nancy"
Middleton
Dec 1, 1930 — Nov 21, 2023
Poughkeepsie
Agnes "Nancy" Middleton, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 21th, 2023. Born on December 1st, 1930, she was the daughter of Charles and Isabella Laing, who left Scotland to pursue life in America. After graduating from Poughkeepsie High School in 1949, she worked at AC Dutton Lumber Corporation and IBM. She was a member of New Hackensack Reformed Church and a past member of the Vassar Hospital Mothers Club, Dutchess County Scottish Society and IBM Country Club. On September 21, 1957, she married Colin C. Middleton Jr. at the Washington Street Methodist Church in Poughkeepsie. Colin passed away on April 22, 2013, at Vassar hospital. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her oldest son Brian of New Milford, Connecticut, and her sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Joseph Michaloski of Poughkeepsie. She is survived by her son Scot Middleton of Thousand Oaks, California, a niece Diane McNamara, and several cousins.
When she wasn't busy caring for her husband and two sons who she referred to as "the menfolk", Nancy enjoyed gardening and spending time in her yard. Her faith was very important to her, and she rarely missed a church service or the opportunity to chat with friends afterwards. She and her sister Margaret were born a year apart and were inseparable all their lives. Through childhood and raising their families they remained best friends, sharing every part of their lives with one another. Nancy was happiest when she cared for others, whether it was family, friends, or the animals she loved.
A graveside service, open to all who wish to attend, will be held on Thursday 11/30 at 1 pm at the Freedom Plains Cemetery in LaGrange. Services have been entrusted to Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice.
