Agnes Scott
Keeley
Jan 11, 1929 — Aug 10, 2020
Millbrook
Beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law and friend, Agnes Scott Keeley passed away peacefully on August 10, 2020.
Born in Swalwell, England in 1929, Agnes spent her childhood and early adulthood in the north of England near Newcastle. Her English spirit never left her and her love of the English countryside and her much-loved brothers and sisters drew her back for many visits.
Agnes married John Aldus Keeley on August 20, 1949. They moved to Canada and then the U.S. in the early 1950's where they joined Keeley family members in Dutchess County. They became the proud owners of a home on Verbank Road in the late 1950's where Agnes and John raised their three children, Jill, Bobby and Scott. The center of many family activities for over 60+ years, their beautiful home was their pride and joy.Agnes started her working life at Barclay's Bank in England. Her job included tallying long columns of numbers, which she did flawlessly before calculators and even adding machines. When their kids were school-aged, Agnes worked in the school cafeteria where she became famous for her 'school cookies'. As their kids grew to independence, Agnes took a job as a bookkeeper at Agway Oil & Gas Co., in Verbank where she worked until retirement. An expert knitter, Gran produced a new pair of socks for everyone every Christmas. Her needles always in action, she made gorgeous sweaters, skirts, blankets, buntings, and more. Everyone had a favorite bunny hat or owl sweater lovingly made by Grandma. Her needlework skills were not limited to knitting as she became an adept quilter in her later years, helping to make a quilt every year for the Millbrook Seniors.
As an integral part of her grandchildren's lives, Gran taught all of them to cook. Her first grandchild, David, even went on to become a chef. Christmas dinner will forever include Gran's famous Yorkshire puddings and picnics will be blessed with her famous carrot cake and cheesecake.
Agnes joined the Millbrook Seniors after her retirement where she served as treasurer for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed weekly meetings with cards and snacks as well as the many trips and, of course, the many friends she made over the years.
Agnes Scott Keeley was predeceased by her husband John Keeley, her 7 brothers and sisters, Belle, Emily, Jimmy, Robbie, Mary, John & Frank. She is survived by her daughter Jill Van Tassell (Stephen), sons Robert Keeley (Michelle) & Scott Keeley, (Vicky), grandchildren David (Heidi), Danny, Jessica (Bryan), Rebecca (Josh), Leanne & Emma (Alex), great grandchildren Ethan, Ryan, Zachary, Lucas, Cornelius, Phoebe, Henry & Esther and many nieces and nephews. Dedicated to her family to the end, she will be sorely missed.
